The web series ‘Scam 2003’ is based on the 2003 stamp paper scam. Its sequel ‘Scam 2003 Volume 2’ was recently released on the OTT platform ‘Sonylive’. How is it?

Director Tushar Hiranandani’s web series ‘Scam 2003: The Telgi Story’ (Scam 2003) is based on the stamp paper scam that created a sensation in 2003. Based on the life of Abdul Karim Telgi, who committed stamp paper fraud in 2003, the first part of this series was released on OTT ‘Sony Liv’ on September 1 and impressed. The second part has been released recently. And how many episodes are there in ‘Scam 2003 Volume 2’? What topics are mentioned this time?

Here’s the Story: Before we get to the story of Part 2, let’s rewind what happened in Part 1. Abdul Karim Telgi (Gagan Dev Riar) from Khanapur, Karnataka is a degree graduate. No job can be found no matter how hard you try. Either way, he ends up supporting his family by selling fruits on trains. Shaukat Khan, who travels on a train, likes his way of doing business by talking to everyone separately. So, he tells Telgi that he will give him any job if he comes to Mumbai. So he left Khanapur with torn clothes and a dirty bag for Mumbai and became the cause of a scam worth thousands of crores. Volume 1 shows the challenges he faced as a result of his preference for original Telgi stamp papers. What is the weakness of Telgi who scammed to the extent of giving loans to banks? Why did differences arise between a married wife and a married brother? Where did his downfall begin? On whose word did he admit the crime in the court? This Part 2 is the answer to other questions.

How it is: Telgi’s family background, his thinking, the challenges he faced to create money and not make it, Telgi’s complete understanding of the printing of stamp papers in Nashik, their transportation, making friends with politicians and government officials. The first part is boiled. Heroism has been elevated in the case of Telgi’s character. As for Part 2, his downfall was taken as the main theme. Volume 1 ends when Telgi, who is enjoying himself at a party, gets a phone call and gets stressed. Volume 2 opens with a scene explaining it. Showing what happened in the past through a few shots will not have much effect. This second part can be understood only if you have seen the first part. No problem for those who know about real telgi. Like Part 1, Part 2 will be spread over 5 episodes.

It is revealed in the first episode that Telgi is suffering from a fatal disease. Later, the family members also shun him. And the audience comes to the opinion that his work is over. But, as the story progresses, Telgi sees the mind game and remembers the ‘You prove me wrong’ dialogue from the movie ‘Jersey’. Telgi’s falling ill, conflicts with family members, cheating by those who once trusted him in business matters, etc., have been elaborated in two episodes. Here and there is a stretch in this order. The story picks up speed when SIT (Special Investigation Team) officers Surya Pratap Gehlot (Mukesh Tiwari) and Jaisingh enter the scene. The investigation done by both of them in different ways is impressive. Especially Surya Pratap’s character feels wow. As part of this investigation, Telgi’s connections with (politicians, and government officials) will be revealed. Rs. It is known that a 30 thousand crores scam was done. However, as the events taking place in Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore are shown at the same time, confusion arises as to which scene takes place where. There is no clarity about the roles coming in that order. Which police officer is helping Telgi while he is in judicial custody? There will be confusion as to who is against him. It would have been better if it had shown in full what kind of tremors were caused in the then government due to this huge scandal. It has been limited to some extent. The role of Sanjay Singh, who wrote a book titled ‘Reporter Key Diary’ based on Telgi’s life, can also be seen in this part 2. The pre-climax scene where Telgi explains why he did all that is emotional. A man’s eventual admission of guilt in a court of law revealed another side of Telgi. It is special to show the scenes where Real Telgi confesses his crime. The way Telgi’s wife ends the climax is satisfying, saying that the criminals are hurting their families first without knowing it.

Who did it: Like Part 1, Part 2 is Gagan Dev’s rear one-man show. He lived in the role of Telgi. Sana Amin Sheikh who played the role of Telgi’s wife has more scope of acting in this. Surya Pratap Gehlot, Jaisingh and other actors are impressive. Other occasional characters are also pleasing.

Analysis: The background score by Ishaan Chhabra is okay. Compared to part 1, they could not do so much magic in this. The cinematography by Stanley Mudda is okay. Kunal Valve should have cut the first three episodes. Tusshar, who proved that he could make biographical films well with ‘Sand Ki Ankh’, scored good marks in this series as well.

Thumbs Up:

  • Gagan Dev Rear acting
  • C.I.T. Investigation
  • Climax

Thumbs Down:

  • Some characters are unclear
  • Stretching here and there

Verdict: This second part of Telgi.. An emotional journey.
